Summary of Unit 1 work (so far)

We looked at how truth is represented in the media for biased or propaganda means (Hillsborough Disaster - the sun)

Representation of people in reality TV (stereotypes and if they reinforced or not)

Stuart hall’s theories on approaches to representation.

Reflective approach is a reflection of the real world; representations are accurate to reality. For instance in the documentary, skint they show how the lower class live. A reflective approach would be that all lower classes live like the people in the documentary.

Intentional approach is that the representation is created as propaganda to show opinions and make the audience follow them.

Constructionist approach is a mix of the other two approaches.

We took photos of us in different poses, lighting and camera angles to show how things like this can change the way we see or interoperate images

We looked at controversial adverts showcasing that some adverts have underling horrible meanings and implications. Discussing who might agree with its representations or challenge them.

We also looked at print and video adverts that showed stereotypes and we looked at others that showed how adverts could be polysemic or anchored.

We looked at films and TV shows that feature intertextuality to show how they make the intertextuality and why they do it.
